Series of Apollo – Symbols

Symbols and icons of this deity

Apollo has many symbols and sacred animals so I’ll arrange them in a list:

  • The lyre. Apollo is seen with a lyre because of his form as god of music.
  • A bow and arrows. Apollo is seen with a bow and arrows, such as his sister, Artemis.
  • The number 7. When searching about him I realize his number is 7. Actually, every 7th day of the greek month was dedicated to him.
  • The sun, being a god associated with it.
  • A wreath of bay leaves. Or a golden laurel.
  • The wolves are associated with him because of an epithet. (Apollo Lykios)
  • The mice are also associated with him because of an epithet. (Apollo Smintheios)
  • So are the locusts. (Apollo Parnopios)
  • He is also associated with dolphins.
  • The snakes are associated with him because of a myth where he defeated Python.
  • The swans are also another form of him.
  • So are the raven.
  • His colors are gold, yellow and white.

If I forget any of other symbols just say it, either by comment or by email, please.

Thank you,
Andy.
